THYMUS CANCER

DESCRIPTION – thymoma and thymic carcinoma are diseases in which malignant cells form on the outside of the thymus. The thymus, a small organ that lies in the upper chest under the breast bone.

METHODOLOGY – next generation sequencing (NGS)

TURN AROUND TIME – 3 days

PATIENT PREPARATION –

COLLECT – lavender (EDTA), green (sodium heparin)

SPECIMEN PREPARATION – transport 4 ml whole blood

STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – refrigerated or room temperature

STABILITY – ambient: 72 hours; refrigerated: 72 hours

UNACCEPTABLE CONDITIONS - cord blood, specimens older than 72 hours, clotted specimens

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
