PATHOPHYSIOLOGY – the two common distinctive pathologic subtypes of esophageal cancer are squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. These differs with regards to etiology, ethnic distribution, pathogenesis and location in the esophagus. The precursor lesions are also unique to each subtype
