Endometriosis Symptoms

DESCRIPTION

Endometriosis is an often painful disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus – the endometrium – grows outside your uterus. Endometriosis most commonly involves your ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue lining your pelvis.

Symptoms –

• Painful periods
• Pain with intercourse
• Pain while urination or bowel movements
• Infertility
• Excessive bleeding

Risk factors –

• Never giving birth
• Periods started at early age
• Menopause at an older age
• Short menstrual cycle
• Heavy menstrual periods
• Having higher levels of estrogen
• Low body mass index
• Any medical condition
• Disorders of reproductive tract

Diagnosis and test –

• Pelvic exam
• Ultrasound
• Magnetic resonance imaging
• Laparoscopy

Treatment –

• Pain medication
• Hormone therapy
• Conservative surgery
• Fertility treatment
