DESCRIPTION – urothelial cells expand when your bladder is full and contract when your bladder is empty. These same cells line the inside of the ureters and the urethra, and cancers can form in those places as well. Urothelial carcinoma is the most common type of bladder cancer

TURN AROUND TIME – 5 days
PATIENT PREPARATION –
COLLECT – voided urine
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – transfer 2 ml urine to transport tube
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – refrigerated
STABILITY – ambient: 48 hours; refrigerated: 1 week; frozen: 6 months
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – do not use paper or foam cups for urine sample collection
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
