DESCRIPTION

Acne is a skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. It causes whiteheads, blackheads or pimples. Acne is most common among teenagers, though it affects people of all ages. Effective acne treatments are available, but acne can be persistent.

Symptoms –

Whiteheads

Blackheads

Small, red tender bumps

Pimples with pus

Large, solid painful lumps

Painful pus filled lumps

Risk factors –

Common in teenagers

Hormonal change

Family history

Greasy or oily substances

Friction or pressure on your skin

Diagnosis and test –

Acne is diagnosed by a simple visual inspection by your healthcare provider. There is no test for acne. Rarely, a practitioner may take a swab or scraping of a lesion or pustule for microbiological examination or culture to rule out other sources of infection
