DESCRIPTION – kidney function tests are urine or blood tests that evaluate how well your kidneys are working. Most of these tests measure glomerular filtration rate. GFR assesses how efficiently your kidneys clear waste from your system
METHODOLOGY – quantitative chemiluminiscent immunoassay
TURN AROUND TIME – within 24 hours
SPECIMEN REQUIERED –
COLLECT – serum separator tube
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – allow serum to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 ml of serum or plasma to transport tube
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – refrigerated
STABILITY – ambient: 4 hours; refrigerated: 4 days; frozen: 6 months
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – specimens collected in citrate, oxalate or EDTA
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
