HEPATITIS E VIRUS IgM ANTIBODY TEST
DESCRIPTION – anti HEV IgM is the serologic marker of choice for diagnosis of acute HEV infection. Positive predictive value of a given diagnostic laboratory test is dependent on the prevalence rate of the disease for which the test is being used
METHODOLOGY – quantitative enzyme linked immunosorbent assay
TURN AROUND TIME – 1-5 days
SPECIMEN REQUIERED –
COLLECT – serum separator tube or red (clot activator), lavender (EDTA)
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – separate serum from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 ml of serum to transport tube
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – refrigerated
STABILITY – refrigerated: 2 weeks; frozen: indefinitely
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – specimens containing particulate matter
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
