ELISA ANTI HCV TEST
DESCRIPTION – also called the ELISA screen, it checks for antibodies that your body releases to fight the virus. These are proteins your body makes when it finds the hepatitis C virus in your blood. They usually show up about 12 weeks after infection.
METHODOLOGY – quantitative transcription mediated amplification
TURN AROUND TIME – 1-3 days
SPECIMEN REQUIERED –
COLLECT – lavender (EDTA), pink (potassium EDTA), plasma or serum separator tube
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – separate the plasma or serum from cells within 6 hours of collection. Transfer 1 ml of serum or plasma to transport tube
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – frozen
STABILITY – refrigerated: 5 days; frozen: 2 months
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – heparinized specimens
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
