NT PRO BNP TEST
DESCRIPTION – a BNP test or an NT-pro BNP test is most often used to diagnose or rule out heart failure. If you’ve already been diagnosed with heart failure, the test may be used to: find out the severity of the condition. Plan treatment. Find out if treatment is working
METHODOLOGY – quantitative electro-chemiluminiscent immunoassay
TURN AROUND TIME – within 24 hours
SPECIMEN REQUIERED –
COLLECT – serum separator tube, green (sodium heparin), or lavender (EDTA)
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – allow serum to clot completely at room temperature. Separate the serum from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 ml of serum to transport tube.
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – frozen
STABILITY – ambient: 3 days; refrigerated: 6 days; frozen: 3 years
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – use of alternate containers
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
