INHIBIN B TEST
DESCRIPTION – inhibin B is a hormone associated with reproduction and the development of eggs in women and sperm in men. This test measures the inhibin B level in the blood and may be used as part of an infertility evaluation. Inhibin B is made mostly by the ovaries in females and by the testicles in males.
METHODOLOGY – quantitative enzyme linked immunosorbent assay
TURN AROUND TIME – 1-8 days
SPECIMEN REQUIERED –
PATIENT PREPARATION – for premenopausal females, collection is preferred during the pre-follicular phase of the menstrual cycle
COLLECT – serum separator tube or plain red
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – transport 0.5 ml of serum to transport tube
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – frozen
STABILITY – refrigerated: 72 hours; frozen: 1 month
UNACCEPTABLE CNDITION – plasma, room temperature specimen and grossly hemolyzed specimens
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
