INHIBIN A TEST

DESCRIPTION – inhibin A test is done to measure the amount of this hormone in a pregnant woman’s blood to see if the baby may have down syndrome. Inhibin A is made by the placenta during pregnancy. The level of inhibin A in the blood is used in a maternal serum quadruple screening test

METHODOLOGY – quantitative chemiluminiscent immunoassay

TURN AROUND TIME – 1-2 days

SPECIMEN REQUIERED –

PATIENT PREPARATION – fasting specimens are recommended not required

COLLECT – serum separator tube

SPECIMEN PREPARATION – transfer 1 ml of serum to transport tube

STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – refrigerated

STABILITY – ambient: 72 hours; refrigerated: 2 weeks; frozen: 1 year

UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – plasma, hemolyzed or severely lipemic specimen

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
