GALACTOMANNAN TEST
DESCRIPTION – galactomannan is a polysaccharide antigen that exists primarily in the cell walls of aspergillus species. GM may be released into the blood and other body fluids even in the early stages of aspergillus invasion, and the presence of this antigen can be sustained for 1 to 8 weeks
METHODOLOGY – semi quantitative enzyme immunoassay
TURN AROUND TIME – 1-2 days
SPECIMEN REQUIERED –
COLLECT – plain red or serum separator tube
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – separate serum from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 2 ml serum to transport tube
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – frozen
STABILITY – refrigerated: 1 week; frozen; 1 week
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – plasma or hemolyzed specimens
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
