SPECIMEN REQUIERED –
COLLECT – plasma separator or serum separator tube or plain red
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – allow the specimen to clot completely at room temperature to ensure absence of fibrin in the serum, which can interfere with this test. Separate the serum from cells within 24 hours of collection. Transfer 2 ml of serum to transport tube
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – frozen
STABILITY – ambient: 24 hours; refrigerated: 1 week; frozen: 1 year
UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION – repeated frozen specimens
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS – clinical history is mandatory
