DESCRIPTION – IGH gene rearrangement is commonly found in B-cell tumors. When B-cell matures, the immunoglobin heavy chain gene is rearranged so that each mature B-cell and plasma cell has a unique rearranged heavy chain gene profile
CLINICAL UTILITY – prognostic marker for acute lymphoblastic leukemia or acute myelogenous. Covers translocations t (4;14), t (11;14) and t (14;16)
METHODOLOGY – fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)

PATIENT PREPARATION –
COLLECT – non diluted bone marrow aspirate and sodium heparin
SPECIMEN PREPARATION – 3-4 ml bone marrow or peripheral blood in green top or lavender top tube
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – 2-8 degrees C (with cold pack)
STABILITY – ambient: 48 hours; refrigerated: 48 hours
