DESCRIPTION – 6q deletion is a chromosomal abnormality in which there is absence of genetic material on chromosome number 6

CLINICAL UTILITY – 6q deletion has a higher frequency in CLL and is linked with a good prognosis.

METHODOLOGY – fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)

PATIENT PREPARATION –

COLLECT – non diluted bone marrow aspirate

SPECIMEN PREPARATION – 3-4 ml bone marrow or peripheral blood in green top (sodium heparin) or lavender top (EDTA) tube

STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURE – room temperature (8-25 degrees C)

STABILITY – ambient: 48 hours; refrigerated: 48 hours
